The Rev. Alan C. James began his ministry as interim rector (senior pastor) on February 1, 2023, while we search for our fourth rector. He was ordained a priest in 1996. Prior to his ministry with us, Fr. Alan was the associate rector, interim rector, or rector of six congregations in California, Ohio, Michigan, and Illinois, including our neighboring congregation – Messiah/St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Avalon Park. He has also served on the Bishop’s Staff in the Dioceses of Ohio and Western Michigan, working with over 100 congregations during those two calls.
Fr. Alan’s passion in ministry is assisting congregations discern who they are as a faith community - how they can best steward their individual and collective gifts while deepening their relationships with God and one another. It is his goal to help parishioners see and share the gift of God’s joy and peace with one another.
A native of Southern California, Fr. Alan served for four years as a US Naval officer prior to ordination. He is married to the Very Rev. Lisa Hackney-James, the Provost of St. James Cathedral. Together they have a blended family with six adult children and six grandsons.
