Worship
As an Episcopal Church, St. Edmund’s primary form of worship is centered around the participatory liturgies of the Book of Common Prayer. The foremost of these liturgies, the Holy Eucharist, is the centerpiece of our Sunday morning worship.
Instituted by Christ, the Eucharist, or ‘thanksgiving’, is a reenactment of the Last Supper, a sacred meal that is shared between followers of Christ that is to provide a foretaste of the heavenly banquet we will share in the presence of God. It is also a reenactment of the crucifixion, serving as a constant reminder of our reconciliation to God through Christ who takes the form as our Passover lamb.
The Holy Eucharist, in conjunction with the “Word of God”, which includes the reading of Scripture, Creeds, and Prayers, provides for the basic structure of our worship service.
We conduct two Sunday services. A ‘Low Mass’ where liturgies are spoken without the accompaniment of music and a ‘High Mass’ where the liturgies are sung with the accompaniment of music and our wonderful choir.
Deciding which Mass to attend is generally based off of personal preference
Whether you join us at our ‘Low’ or ‘High’, we look forward to seeing you!
