Worship at St. Edmund's Church
Welcome to St. Edmund’s Episcopal Church, where we seek to worship God in Christ through prayer and action. Located in Washington Park for over a century, St. Edmund’s is grounded in and formed by our long tradition as a historically Black congregation. While we remain a majority Black congregation, our membership is becoming more multi-racial as the demographics of our neighboring communities evolve.
As Episcopalians our worship style (our liturgy) is similar to what you would see in a Roman Catholic or Lutheran service, and our beliefs are expressive of and in keeping with our Protestant roots. We are a progressive church. It is precisely because of our engagement with Scripture as God’s Word that we ordain women and LGBTQ+ individuals; clergy are able to marry; we equally welcome same and opposite gender couples seeking God’s blessing in marriage; and divorced individuals are able to be re-married in the Church.
Whether it be for a single service or the start of a longer relationship, we would welcome and be honored to have you worship with us online or in person. Please do not hesitate to contact us by phone or through the email form on the contact page if you have any questions that we might answer for you. May God bless you this day and always.
